COME TO THE FEAST…
At Sunday's 11 AM Mass, eight of our parish children will come up to God’s altar to receive the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ at their First Holy Communion. Congratulations! The first time I as the pastor of St. Martin de Porres Parish gave Second Level students this precious gift was back in 2014. Ten years later, they are now graduating from high school! The Gospel for today’s Mass is appropriate for the celebration of First Eucharist. It reminds us that Jesus is “the Vine” and that we are “the branches.” Our lifesource is possible only when we are grafted and connected to the very source of that life: Jesus Christ. Stay connected!
SAY HELLO AND SAY GOOD-BYE…
This Tuesday evening, at 6:00 PM, our Religious Education/Faith Formation Director, Assistant, catechists, students and their families will join in a Thanksgiving Mass for achieving another year of learning and spiritual formation. I am grateful for the students we had this past year, who were respectful, openminded and curious about their Catholic Faith. I am grateful for the outstanding catechists who gave witness to their faith not only in the classroom, but also in their daily living. I am most grateful to Sandy Acord for being a great DRE – and most recently selected as the Director of Family Ministry for our Saints among the Saints Family of Parishes. And to Mary Loria, her Assistant, for her loving concern and gentle care. Thank you! Parents and students, remember: There is no “vacation” from your "vocation!”
IT’S HARD TO SAY, “I’M SORRY” AND EVEN HARDER TO FORGIVE…
I came upon these “Words of Wisdom” recently. See if they resonate with you: “Forgiveness can be difficult, and prayer will be your best friend on the journey. Prayer softens your heart. Prayer gently redirects your soul. Prayer allows the Hand of God to
guide you to where you need to be.” I remember when my siblings and I were toddlers and had to apologize to each other. We learned to say, “I sorry,” (as little ones
say it) and then hug each other. When we became teenagers, our mom would force us to stand at arm’s length from each other, put our hands on the other’s shoulders, and keep saying “I love you, I love you, I love you” until we started laughing!
