THE LOVE AND PATIENCE OF GOD

It is very sad when one has done everything possible for a sibling, relative or friend to be successful, but received only disappointment and ingratitude. A mother may sacrifice greatly for her children and end up wondering if she had labored in vain. A spouse may give love, patience, and support and still be treated badly. A faithful friend may give every loyalty and still be repaid with betrayal. It is truly painful when love gives its best and still receives the opposite in return.
This human experience can help us appreciate today’s first reading. In the reading, God presents Himself as one who has lovingly invested in His people. He compares His people to a vineyard to which He gave everything necessary in order to make it fruitful, yet it yielded only wild and bitter grapes. God's disappointment is expressed in a soul-touching question: “What more was there to do for my vineyard that I had not done for it?" And the prophet Isaiah tells us that : The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel.
